RESOURCES

Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDOR) was founded by transgender advocate Gwendolyn Ann Smith as a vigil to honor her memory of Rita Hester, a transgender woman of color who was killed in 1998. The vigil commemorated all the transgender people lost to violence that year and began an important memorial that has become the annual Transgender Day of Remembrance. As trans women of color are the most impacted by violence and murder, it’s important to raise awareness of the danger that many in the trans community face every day.

Below, please find links to resources that you will find helpful in gaining an understanding of transgender advocacy groups that are raising awareness and providing support for transgender individuals and their family's every day.
